Ig and drummer Josey Wales were frequently players at the KNED Sunday, and Sweet T joined them on the Bass guitar to form dRink/drAnk/pUnk in the Spring of 2012. The first two gigs were at KNED house parties, followed by gigs at the First Street Pub, the Stage Stop, and the Pioneer Inn during the summer of 2013. These first shows followed the format of "A Blues Band with a Punk Habit." In short, the name Drink/Drank/Punk was a chronological description of how the evening's set would evolve: it starts with Blues and blues rock, and evolves progressively to a hardcore punk sound influenced by the likes of Black Flag, the Misfits, and the Circle Jerks.
The first Denver gig was at the Three Kings Tavern for a reunion party for Nobody In Particular Productions (N.I.P.P.) in August 2013. It went well and we decided to try and play Denver clubs, focusing more on a hard core sound. We played a half dozen shows in Denver in the fall, at Bar Bar, Bushwackers, and again at Three Kings.
During this period we also reached a new level of competence on the broadcast end of things. We started broadcasting shows live from the Pioneer Inn- one as Drink/Drank/Punk, another time we broadcast the band Riff Raff, and several times we have broadcast the Wednesday night band the Firebreathers and the blues jam that follows.
We recently recorded a 5 song demo, which you can hear on Reverb Nation. It will also be broadcast on KNED 95.3 FM. Drink/DraNK/PuNk is currently booking shows for the upcoming Spring and Summer in the mountains, in Denver and maybe in Pueblo or somewhere. -IG
P.S. On The Name: I was a dj at KBFR in Boulder in 2009/2010. I did two shows a week. The first was Phantom Blues, the second was called Five Hours of Punk Rock. I kept running across the Anti-Flag song called Drink Drank Punk on the KBFR punk rock playlist(BFR for a time was called Phantom Radio). I decided then that it would be a good name for a band.
