Edison was conceived out of the search for meaning after the chaos of extreme loss. Slaton wrote most of the initial music for Edison as a therapeutic practice to make it through the labyrinth of suffering inflicted by the loss of her mother who lost a long and arduous battle against the vicious disease, cancer. In extreme loss, the path can be found to clarity and hope.
Edison was birthed in 2014 after Sarah Slaton played support to Dustin Morris’ band Brave Song Circle. They traveled to the SXSW Music Festival together and on that journey, Edison was born. Slaton had been writing and playing with the idea of the songs for many years but it was the addition of the multi-instrumentalist that really brought the music together. Not long after, Maxwell Hughes played support to Edison on their tour to SXSW and again, fate would have that Edison needed a 3rd to round out their sound. Since 2015, Edison has been touring as a trio gaining a fanbase and network across the country. In March 2016, Edison signed to the New Jersey-based independent label Rhyme and Reason Records who released the first Edison LP in September 2016. Named “Denver Darlings” by the BolderBeat, Edison’s road warrior ethic and lysergic modern folk sound has created something of a cult following in Colorado and beyond.
"Though it’s a proper studio release, the nine-track effort in a way captures exactly what the band’s been doing the last 12 months: bringing music to life." - Consequence of Sound
