"A Superb Punch Of Musical Bliss.”-Time Out"KOLARS are as if T-Rex and the Pixies had a love child who was born tap dancing on a drum kit and with a no-shits-given punk aesthetic.”-Underground LondonKOLARS is one of those rare acts which descends from another dimension, struts its sequin skin, blares it’s unabashed musical thrill ride and leaves audiences with their mouths on the floor. Rob Kolar twists and turns as he sings imaginative lyrics witha raw swagger. He spins his guitar as notes sail and scramble through the room. A presence that embodies elements of Elvis and Marc Bolan with a ragged punky edge. The magnetic, one of a kind, Lauren Brown uses her whole body as a percussion instrument, tap dancing rhythms with her feet while simultaneously playing a full stand up kit with her arms. An alluring hybrid of Mo Tucker and Gene Kelly with a dash of Iggy Pop wildness. Yes, there have been iconic duos before but none like this. On record KOLARS are slightly more subtle and nuanced. Rob produces and mixes the music and has created a genre melding soundscape influenced by his film scoring. The band has inspired evocative descriptions such as “space blues," “glam-a-billy” and “desert disco." The style combines elements of new wave, blues, pyschedelia, glam, folk, disco and punk. The production experiments are infused into the live show. In essence, the duo are a hybrid of modern technology and raw rock and roll. KOLARS have toured extensivelyacross the US, Canada and Europe, playing many festivals and concerts in front of thousands. They have headlined national tours and have shared bills with Spoon, LP,Julian Casablancas & The Voidz, STRFKR, The Kills,Best Coast,Shonen Knife, RZA, Pussyriot,Built To Spill, The Horrors,The Growlers, Alanis Morissette,Funkadelic,The Revivalists, Father John Misty, The Roots,Nikki Lane,Strawberry Alarm Clock and many others. They have built their momentum through hard work and tenacity, growing theirfollowing one fan at a time. They tour relentlessly and do much of the work themselves. The husband and wife duo treat the business like a growing mom and pop startup. Rock and Roll with an entrepreneurial spirit.
Edison (Album Release)
EDISON, singer/guitarist Sarah Slaton, multi-instrumentalist, Dustin Morris, and Grammy-nominated guitarist, Maxwell Hughes (formerly of The Lumineers) - is an indie rock trio from Colorado which has quickly emerged as a musical force. Edison has quickly formed a national fan base thanks to their high-energy live shows and tireless touring efforts. In addition to countless club gigs, they've earned attention at such music industry conferences as SXSW, CMJ Music Marathon and Folk Alliance International. "We've been on the road nonstop for over a year", Slaton notes. "We didn't have a lot of releases out there so we decided to hit the road and meet as many people as we could and foster those relationships." That strategy worked, winning the band a devoted national audience as well as support slots with the likes of Iron & Wine, Langhorne Slim, Andrew McMahon and Nathaniel Rateliff & The Nightsweats.
Edison was conceived out of the search for meaning after the chaos of extreme loss. Slaton wrote most of the initial music for Edison as a therapeutic practice to make it through the labyrinth of suffering inflicted by the loss of her mother who lost a long and arduous battle against the vicious disease, cancer. In extreme loss, the path can be found to clarity and hope.
Edison was birthed in 2014 after Sarah Slaton played support to Dustin Morris’ band Brave Song Circle. They traveled to the SXSW Music Festival together and on that journey, Edison was born. Slaton had been writing and playing with the idea of the songs for many years but it was the addition of the multi-instrumentalist that really brought the music together. Not long after, Maxwell Hughes played support to Edison on their tour to SXSW and again, fate would have that Edison needed a 3rd to round out their sound. Since 2015, Edison has been touring as a trio gaining a fanbase and network across the country. In March 2016, Edison signed to the New Jersey-based independent label Rhyme and Reason Records who released the first Edison LP in September 2016. Named “Denver Darlings” by the BolderBeat, Edison’s road warrior ethic and lysergic modern folk sound has created something of a cult following in Colorado and beyond.
"Though it’s a proper studio release, the nine-track effort in a way captures exactly what the band’s been doing the last 12 months: bringing music to life." - Consequence of Sound
